Places producing pigments in ancient China in the periods from pre-CZ6in to Ó7ang which were given in ancient books and documents were found and listed. From pre-CZ6in to Han the places were distributed in Hunan, Hupei and Szechwan provinces, i.e. in the inner part of South China. After the Six Dynasties period names of places in North China, tropical countries and Central Asia began to appear in books. This indicates the importation of pigments from foreign countries. Besides mineral pigments the places producing lac dye and glue were also given. The pigments mentioned are cinnabar, malachite, azurite, red lead, white lead, realgar and orpiment. -- AATA
