When a wall painting is condemned for several reasons, we have to consider what solutions we can apply to conserve it, even if it means taking it out of its original context. We have revised the distinct methods that allow a thorough documentation of wall paintings that are condemned, considering one wall painting in particular. The restoration project of the Iglesia-Fortaleza de Nuestra Senora de los Angeles, in Castielfabib (Valencia) implicates the extraction of all the neoclassical elements in order to expose the Gothic original structure, and obtain a more homogeneous reading of the most relevant architectural elements of the building. As documentation methods of such artworks, previous photography and physical-chemical studies were performed, as well as tracings and selective strappi of each repeated ornamental element.
