The removal of corrosion products from the outside of stained glass, using fine abrasives and a dental drill, or acids, is described. In many cases extra leads which have been added to strengthen cracked glass can be removed and the glass repaired with synthetic adhesives. Missing areas can be replaced with glass which has been matched using enamels and stains. Enamels are mineral colours mixed with powdered glass (flux) and a temporary medium. These are painted on the glass and fired. A yellow stain is made from silver chloride. Recipes are given. -- AATA
