Abstract
The permanence of stone is illusory; the care of stone objects demands some knowledge of mineralogy, of properties such as porosity, hardness, friability, resistance to attack by acids, etc. The presence of surface salts indicates the need to adjust the humidity levels in the immediate environment of the stone object. Protective coatings are not recommended in most cases. It is not advisable to keep stone statuary outdoors.
