Abstract
Contains a brief history of the manufacture and usage of pressure-sensitive tapes. Methods for identifying paper backings and plastic film backings are presented as flow diagrams. Further ways of identification by appearance, solubility, and carrier type are given in chart form. The classifications are expanded in the text. Conservation treatments for the safe removal of the tapes using heat, cellulose powder, a Fuller's Earth poultice, solvents, and Gore-Tex are described in detail.
