Abstract
Destruction by Hurricane Hugo of the trees protecting this temple mound at Santee Indian Mound, South Carolina, led to development and execution of a detailed stabilization plan involving several government agencies and the National Clearinghouse for Archaeological Site Stabilization. The article describes the careful stripping of the vegetative cover with a biodegradable herbicide and its revegetation with Bermuda grass. During the process intrusive holes were recorded, lined, and filled.
