Explanations are given of the significance of x-ray photographs during restoration work for the evaluation of discoveries of archaeological iron as per the following examples: Evidencing of fakes, ascertainment of the position and mutual relation of several objects to one another in their state of recovery, clarification of technological data, determination of the state of corrosion and the remaining substance. Information thus obtained is often more exact than the exterior appearance of the discovered objects. -- AATA
