Abstract
The intent of this paper is to assess current criticism of faulty materials and techniques used in 20th-century art by reviewing some of this criticism within a historical context. The paper will encourage conservators to draw conclusions which will be more broadminded and sympathetic towards the material nature of modern and contemporary art.
