Abstract
The cleaning, consolidation, and restoration of one of the focal points in the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Industry fresco by Diego Rivera, is discussed. The preliminary emphasis is on the documentation of Rivera's technique as revealed by two of the artists who had originally assisted in its execution and subsequently participated in its cleaning. Giornata study, artist's changes, pigment analysis, and cleaning techniques are described as well as the coordination of efforts between conservators, artists, and apprentices. -- AATA
