Abstract
The use of Scotchcast tape on the skeletal remains of a five-million year old baleen whale, found in a shallow lagoon near Fort Meyers (Florida), is reported. Traditional materials used in removing such a find are not usable under water. Prefabricated walk-in climate-controlled buildings erected within the storage facility of the Illinois State Museum have provided the needed storage environments for archaeological artifacts, fossil bones and other climate-sensitive natural history specimens. Construction of these rooms is described. The environmental controls of the J. Cheney Wells Clock Gallery at Old Sturbridge Village (Massachusetts) are described briefly, but a new fire extinguishing system representing the state-of-the-art is explained at length. -- AATA
