Abstract
An account of the partnership between Lutyens and Jekyll describing many of the 112 gardens which they designed together. Traces Jekyll's early life from her birth in 1843 to her meeting with Lutyens in 1889 so that the influence of her tastes and artistic experience on the work of the partnership may be assessed. A chapter describes the contributions each made to the process of design, and a final chapter discusses the meaning of their legacy, the place of the gardens in the history of design and includes an account of their survival as landscape works of art. There is also a detailed survey of the 112 gardens (date, location, client, present use and condition, and comments on design information) with a list of Jekyll's own commissions between 1880 and 1932 and miscellaneous and undated projects. -- AATA
