Abstract
Reverts to the problematic restoration and reconstruction of S. Johann Nepomuk (Asam church) in Munich in 1977. The golden aureole on the lower altar, sculptured by Roman Anton Boos in 1783 reflects the original design by Egid Quirin Asam, published as an engraving in 1737. The light originally beamed through a hidden side-window and a window behind the seat of mercy illuminating the choir. There never was a window in the west, as reconstructed in 1977. Reconstruction of Egid Quirin Asam's stucco relief for the altar of S. Johann Nepomuk brotherhood, demolished in 1820, has to rest on an unpublished engraving by Johann Andreas Pfeffel in p. Bohuslas Balbin, Vita B. Joannis Nepomuceni Martyris..., Augsburg 1730 (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich). Appendix lists four letters by the director of the S. Johann Nepomuk seminary, 1820-1821. -- AATA
