The Theban Necropolis at Luxor, Egypt, is a 10-square-kilometer area which contains the Valley of the Kings, many temples, and thousands of tombs. A complete and accurate map of this region is essential for its preservation. Weeks, working in association with the Egyptian Antiquities Organization, has set out to create such a map. Hot air balloons have been used to locate features on cliffs and electronic sensing equipment to locate subterranean elements. -- AATA
