Abstract
The author considers chemical dating systems useful in archaeology. Radiometric dating and its problems are compared with chemical dating and its problems. A major factor in chemical dating is accounting for the effects upon the artifact covered by environmental changes (especially soil chemistry and soil temperature). The main concern of this paper is the results of a two-year study on the sub-surface temperatures of six locations in the Lake Mungo-Walls of China Area in Australia. The results allow the establishment of a base line set of data for extrapolation to older periods; and will aid in more precisely calculating chemical reaction rates for dating purposes. -- AATA
