Abstract
Solvent volatility has traditionally been used to control initial flow and resulting qualities of a conventional coating. As evaporation progresses, the rate limiting factor changes from volatility to diffusion. Developed here is a precise method for determining the transition point. Diffusion is found to limit the total evaporation process in a high solids coating. Therefore, solvent volatility cannot be used to control setting and other initial flow properties. -- AATA
