Abstract
Describes the modern scientific tools that are now increasingly being used for excavation, examination, analysis, and conservation of the monuments and art objects that form collections of archaeological departments. Suggests an in-depth training program by introducing a course in archaeological science for archaeologists, conservators, and personnel working at different levels in the associated departments. A short bibliography of studies in the application of science to archaeology is also given. -- AATA
