Several uses for a video cassette recorder (VCR) in the field of conservation are presented. The authors have found vcrs useful in conservation surveys, and in conjunction with infrared examinations, and in the detailed documentation of the surface conditions of large works of art. The equipment is described. The advantages and disadvantages of the vcr as a conservation tool are listed.
