Abstract
Stabiltex, a plain woven multifilament polyester fabric, has found widespread use in conservation, especially with textiles. The biggest drawback in its use has been the fraying of the cut edges and the limited fabric length (one metre). Techniques are described which were developed to overcome these problems by melting and either sealing the edges or joining two pieces of stabiltex. A hot wire pen (electric wax pen) was used for this purpose. Photographs, diagram, list of suppliers.
