Abstract
A new spectroscopic tool, photoacoustic Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, can be used to characterize coatings and interfaces. It is a novel technique that allows characterization of surfaces at various depths and provides information on the molecular level. Because of its nondestructive nature, it can be used as a method for early detection of weathering and degradation processes, for measurement of the kinetics of ultraviolet curing, as an early detection method in detrimental effects of sunlight, and for the determination of substrate-coating interactions. Major advantages and applications of this technique are described. -- AATA
