An instrument based on a movable pin and dial micrometer has been developed which can measure a size change in photographic film of 0.005 mm in 500 mm (1 part in 100,000). This device is simpler, less expensive, and easier to build than apparatus previously described, and exceeds ANSI standards. Dimensional changes of low coating weight, polyester-based films can be determined using the device.
