Abstract
Following previous studies, packing cases for oil paintings were tested to assess a variety of packing materials. This led to some useful practical results. In addition, by monitoring the canvas directly it was possible to measure the accelerations experienced by the paint film. Some further insights were gained into canvas vibration, and it was shown that crack patterns could be generated in paint films by the levels of shock and vibration experienced in transit. -- AATA
