Abstract
At the German Archaeological Institute in Athens, bronzes are heated either in hot water and 7-15% sodium hexametaphosphate, or (according to Thouvenin) in ammonia vapor. Also, an ultrasonic apparatus is used. A large bronze griffin's head was reconstructed with the help of an elastic negative form and a tin casting from this form, which assisted in recreating the original shape. R.W. -- AATA
