Abstract
Fifteen bronze (or brass) castings from Ife and Benin have been dated by the thermoluminescence technique, applied to remaining casting cores. Both fine-grain and pre-dose methods were used. Dates range from the 13th to the 17th centuries, and seem to bear out the oral tradition of the introduction of lost-wax casting to Benin from Ife at the end of the fourteenth century. The article contains pictures of 11 of the castings and an appendix with details of the thermoluminescence analysis. -- AATA
