Abstract
Results are reported from a pilot-plant experiment on the vacuum/pressure impregnation of <i>Nothofagus dombeyi and plantation-grown <i>Eucalyptus globulus. Data are given on the penetration and retention of preservative (a CCA formulation) with each species, and on the relative amounts of Cu and Cr retained in the outer and inner zones of the treated wood samples. In both species the outer zones of the wood retained more Cr than Cu, while the inner zones contained more Cu than Cr. The results show that <i>E. globulus cannot be effectively treated by the vacuum/pressure method with the type of equipment at present available in Chile, which permits the use of pressures up to approximately eighteen kg/cm2. <i>N. dombeyi can be treated fairly satisfactorily with existing plant. -- AATA
