Abstract
A three year project into the special conservation problems associated with painted flags and banners is described. An outline of the treatments carried out is given. The conclusions reached from the work form the main body of the paper, particularly in relation to cleaning, relaxation of distorted paint, and sympathetic consolidation of both textile and paint elements. -- AATA
