Concentrates on the salvage of the Corning Museum library materials that were water soaked and covered with debris by the 1972 Hurricane Agnes flood. There are also two sections on restoration of the glass collections. Research was undertaken on the best means to dry out and sterilize the library collections, which included books and periodicals, photographs and negatives, archives, audiotapes, and rare volumes. The thousands of items had been frozen as the museum was cleaned up; they were dried out by traditional interleaving, by dielectric drying, and by freeze-thaw vacuum drying. Sterilization was in a vacuum chamber with ethylene oxide. -- AATA
