Philips 34 fluorescent tube: Without warning themanufacturers have changed over to a single-coated method of manufacture, and thereby produced a lamp of different colour rendering. Whether the colour rendering is significantly inferior is not yet known, very likely it is not... but it should be clearly understood that, irrespective of the merits of the single coated tube, our published recommendations refer only to the original double-coated tube. MS2A picture varnish resin: Howards of Ilford, England, have ceased to manufacture this resin, which was made from MS2. The formula of MS2 has now been changed and MS2A made from it would be unsuitable for a picture varnish. The original MS2 was equivalent to AW2 (made by BASF). Howards have produced a trial batch of reduced AW2 . Accelerated tests on it are now being carried out at the National Gallery Laboratory. If the tests are satisfactory Howards will make small batches of reduced AW2 which will be sold as MS2B. The price will be considerably higher than MS2A .
