Abstract
The author attempts to set up a list of specifications to aid museum people in caring for works of art during travel and on loan. He suggests methods and procedures for continuous control of the moisture content of humidity sensitive works of art, insulation of cases for protection against sudden changes in temperature, cushioning against vibration and shock, protection from insects, mold and micro-organisms, and improvements in administrative procedures and condition reports. There is a list of suggested procedures and specifications for exhibition planners as well as the specifications used by the National Gallery of Canada for care of works of art in transit. The possibility of creating a large specially prepared container for moving an entire exhibition is suggested.
