The primary duty of a curator is to ensure the safety and good condition of the objects in his care. The curator has a double duty: controlling operations and conditions which make for disintegration and keeping and restoring objects to good health. There must be adequate climate control systems and supervision of the handling of works of art. Measures must be taken to stabilize a damaged or deteriorating object until it can be given to a restorer. Records of condition and interventions taken must be kept. A curator should be trained in the construction of works of art and in treatment of damaged works. -- AATA
