Abstract
The author, from the Bayerisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege in Munich, discusses the conservation of wood, mentioning that we are interested in conserving wood only when it has been worked by a craftsman, when it bears the mark of man. The irreplaceable and culturally valuable nature of wooden works of art is examined. The author believes that a real understanding of the object to be conserved is vitally important. The need for sensible climatic regulation for exhibitions, techniques of stabilizing wood, the need for a system of classification in conservation reports, and the need for some form of control over conservation techniques are indicated. -- AATA
