Abstract
Tests of flame spread, fuel contribution, and smoke density were made. Polymers or fire retardants whose structures include aromatic benzene rings greatly increases the smoke evolution and also produces smaller but significant increases in the flame spread and fuel contribution. The composite of wood with polymethyl methacrylate exhibited an increase in fuel contribution and a decrease in smoke density when compared with untreated wood. The application of an intumescent-paint coating resulted in substantial decreases in all the properties measured. Article may be of interest regarding museum design problems. -- AATA
