Abstract
Bark, sawdust, and solid wood samples were irradiated with thermal neutrons in a high-flux reactor and analyzed using a Ge(Li) detector in conjunction with a 1024-channel analyzer. Twelve of the 24 elements considered essential to life were observed. The improved results attainable with a solid-state detector and larger multichannel analyzer were clearly evident. Quantitative measurements were obtained by the single comparator method. The statistical variation within replications was acceptable. Samples from the same populations were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry; comparisons between the two methods were in satisfactory agreement. -- AATA
