Before using ethylene oxide as disinfectant of illuminated books, the authors carried out some checks based upon the measurement of viscosity and adhesion percentage of some adhesives used as a medium of pigments. They also have recorded the reflectance spectra within the visible range of the pigments most used in miniature painting, distempered in gum-arabic. The results obtained are such as to confirm the adoption of this method of disinfection.
