High resolution spectra are presented for 78 inorganic pigments and extenders in the mid-infrared region from 1500 cm-1 to 200 cm-1. The use of these spectra for the purpose of characterization and identification is discussed. The determination of crystal structure differences such as those between anatase and rutile titanium dioxide is readily performed. An example is employed to illustrate the use of this spectral region for quantitative analysis of pigment mixtures. The usefulness of the above information for the chemical coatings industry is pointed out. -- CAL
