Abstract
The rate of stress relaxation of a series of natural rubber vulcanates of different composition under oxygen was investigated as a function of temperature. The rate of thiuram vulcanizates was found to be dependent on the sulfur content, but all vulcanates were of the same rate of relaxation if they were extracted. The activation energy of extracted vulcanates amounts to 20 kcal/mole. The shape of the relaxation curves was found to be dependent on the pretreatment of the vulcanates as for example time of storing under oxygen or air and extraction in the dark or in daylight.
