Tests used in the Laboratoire de Recherche des Musees de France may often identify a mixture of binders in a thin layer. Egg, oil and gum, and egg and oil binders may be distinguished. Results obtained by heating tests and colorations by black amide have been used simultaneously. Several examples are given to illustrate the method.
