Insect pheromone traps are commercially available for use in an Integrated Pest Management program for libraries and archives. Traps designed for two species of bookworms, the cigarette beetle, Lasioderma serricorne (F.) and the drugstore beetle, Stegobium paniceum (L.) may be used for constant and spot monitoring, locating infestations, drawing out detection, evaluation of alternate control techniques, mass trapping and mating disruption. In libraries and archives, the utilization of this methodology could lead to a reduced dependency on chemical treatments with consequent economic, qualitative, and environmental advantages.
