The authors describe the integrated pest control program implemented since 1985 at the Royal British Columbia Museum. A collections inspection room is an integral part of this program; it has been set up for examining all incoming human history material, including new acquisitions, donations, loans to the museum and loans returned. Procedures, logistics, staff duties and responsibilities are outlined. Objects which are or may be actively infested are put into a deep freezer at -20°C for 48 hours, along with their packaging material and containers. The rate of freezing and the surface temperature of the object is monitored. The chest freezers used were tested to determine the time required to reach the chill-coma temperature (5°C) and lethal conditions (-20°C), and whether the minimum temperature for lethal conditions was constant over 48 hours; the authors present graphs of their results for three different types of artifacts and conditions. -- AATA
