General hazards to which old textiles are exposed and some examples of storage and exhibition installations used by the Abegg-Stiftung in Switzerland are described. The textile collections are put either in wooden drawers or, if they are in good condition, in vertical compartments or closets. Wood has been preferred as a container material as it helps to equalize the changes in humidity and offers protection in case of fire, especially if treated with a fireproofing agent.
