Using high growth stress level species needs a sufficient knowledge of the effects of residual stresses on wood quality. The relations between growth stresses and shrinkage, creep phenomenon, are studied for Poplar and, also, for several species of French Guyana tropical forest. This research needed the development of a non-destructive method allowing to remove samples with well-identified initial growth stress levels.
