Abstract
A review of the history of the Information Retrieval Group of the Museums Association. IRGMA was set up to bring together those interested in developing information retrieval techniques and standards in museums in Britain. Its work included the development of standard documentation procedures, recording media and computer programs which are now in use in many British museums. The Museum Documentation Association is now continuing its work.
