Abstract
Benzotriazole (bta) has been successfully used as a corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys over the past thirty years. It is thought to afford protection by the formation of a thin, chemically bonded complex cuprous benzotriazole, which reinforces the protection of the natural oxide film. An investigation of the state of previously treated artifacts gave encouraging results on the effectiveness of this treatment. Diagrams, 15 references.
