The design of a microwave spectrometer for use primarily by the analytical chemist is described, with particular emphasis on the way in which previously limiting problems have been overcome. Advances in the design of the sample handling facilities, the absorption cell and the data processing system are described in detail and the performance of the complete spectrometer is illustrated.
