The Lindow man has been the subject of detailed dating, which showed a serious discrepancy between the dates obtained by small counters (Harwell) and the accelerator at Oxford (AMS). AMS suggests a date of rather over 2,000 years old, considerably older than the Harwell date. Various reasons for the discrepancy and problems of sample pretreatment in peat conditions are discussed.
