The buried soil described in this note is a product of silt, derived from basalt and weathered in situ. It was formed over a prolonged period of time which in terms of northern hemisphere climatic chronology corresponds to the later phase of the last ice age. Radiocarbon dates for specific samples are tabulated. -- ICCROM
