Abstract
The study of the environmental stability of ceramics was conducted in order to assess the changes in the trace element composition of those ceramics that have survived and do not show signs of physical deterioration. Samples were tested with aqueous solutions of which the composition and acidity should represent various kinds of soils. It appears that a protective layer takes form on the surface of the ceramic during the initial exposure to the environment and that the corrosive action on the exposed surface slows down dramatically after.
