Directions to MCI

MCI is located in the Smithsonian Institution Museum Support Center at 4210 Silver Hill Road, Suitland, Maryland 20746.

Walking Directions from the Metro
The closest Metro stop is the Green Line Suitland Station. There is only one exit from the Suitland metro station – just exit towards where the bus stops are (not overhead walkway to the parking garage). Once outside the metro station, make a right and walk to the street (which will be Silver Hill Road) – do not cross the street. Once at the street, turn right – you will stay on this street until you get to the Museum Support Center. You will cross a bridge that goes over another street (do not go down any ramps onto this other street!), go past a road thatgoes to a garage and a big antenna, continue past a wooded area, and then come to a wrought iron fence around several buildings – the first gate will be closed to the pretty red building (this is not our building!). Keep walking on the sidewalk along the fence to the next driveway and gate which will be open (you will see signs for the Museum Support Center and 2 different construction company signs too), this is the gate that you want to enter, just let the guard inside the gate know you are coming to visit us… they will direct you to follow the sidewalk around to the front of the building. Once inside the building, the guard at the front desk will call us when you arrive. You will also need some form of identification to enter the building.

From Downtown Washington, DC

Take South Capital across the Anacostia River, take Suitland Parkway until the exit for Silver Hill South, exit right onto Silver Hill Road and go about 2 blocks to guard building inside black wrought iron gate on right (second driveway on right after get off ramp), bear toward the building on the left.

From Baltimore, MD and points North

Take I-95 South to the Washington Beltway - I-495/I-95 South (towards Andrews Air Force Base or Richmond), take first exit for Route 4 - Pennsylvania Avenue (towards Washington, DC), at end of exit ramp move one lane to the left, go through 4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th onto Silver Hill Road, go past Suitland High School, the Federal Center, Metro, and the NMAI CRC (all on the right), just past NMAI CRC (neat red building) take the driveway on the right to the guard building inside black wrought iron gate, bear toward the building on the left.

From Richmond, VA and points South

Take I-95 North to the Washington Beltway - I-495/I-95 East (towards Alexandria or Baltimore), take first exit for St. Barnabus Road, at the end of the ramp turn left at the light, go through several traffic lights and under Route 5 - Branch Avenue, continue through one more traffic light and make a right at the next traffic light onto Silver Hill Road, immediately get in the left hand lane and make the first left available to the guard building inside black wrought iron gate on the left, bear toward the building on the left.

From Maryland Eastern Shore

Take Route 50 West to the Washington Beltway - I-495/I-95 South (towards Andrews Air Force Base or Richmond), take first exit for Route 4 - Pennsylvania Avenue (towards Washington, DC), at end of exit ramp move one lane to the left, go through 4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th onto Silver Hill Road, go past Suitland High School, the Federal Center, Metro, and the NMAI CRC (all on the right), just past NMAI CRC (neat red building) take the driveway on the right to the guard building inside black wrought iron gate on right (second driveway on right after get off ramp), bear toward the building on the left.

From Pittsburgh, PA and points West

Take Route 70 East (towards Harrisburg or Philadelphia), take I-270 South to the Washington Beltway - I-495/I-95 East (take the I-270 spur that stays in Maryland), take first exit for Route 4 - Pennsylvania Avenue (towards Washington, DC), at end of exit ramp move one lane to the left, go through 4 traffic lights and turn left at the 5th onto Silver Hill Road, go past Suitland High School, the Federal Center, Metro, and the NMAI CRC (all on the right), just past NMAI CRC (neat red building) take the driveway on the right to the guard building inside black wrought iron gate on right (second driveway on right after get off ramp), bear toward the building on the left.
