Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry

MCI has developed biomolecular mass spectrometry and proteomics capabilities to gather more information from Smithsonian collections, cultural objects, and biological specimens, and to learn more about their materials, their origins, and the causes of their deterioration.

The IRMS pan-institutional laboratory is capable of high-precision measurements of isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and sulfur (C, N, O, H, S).
